Today we will see how to prepare an easy and crispy wheat flour murukku. In this recipe wheat flour is steamed and kneaded together with other ingredients to a smooth dough.
Ingredients
2 cups Wheat flour
1 tsp Chilli powder
1 tsp White sesame seeds
1 tbsp Butter
½ tsp Hing
1 tsp Cumin seeds
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Method
In a cotton cloth place the wheat flour and bring 2 opposite ends of the cloth and tie them together. Now bring the other to ends and tie them too. The flour should be completely covered by the cloth.
Place this in a bowl and place inside a steamer. Steam cook for at least 20 minutes. When you untie the flour it would have turned hard. Let it cool for few minutes. Break the lumps with a spoon and sieve it. Discard the coarse mixture.
In a mixing bowl add flour, red chilli powder, cumin seeds, butter, hing, sesame seeds and salt. Mix it well. Now add water little by little and knead it to make a soft and stiff dough.
Next press the murukku over a plastic sheet. Heat oil in a pan and as it gets heated up slowly slide the murukku from plastic sheet using a spatula. You can even press it directly into the oil or in a ladle and flip it in to the oil
Fry them in oil until golden brown on both sides. You will notice that the bubble in the oil is reduced which indicates murukku is done. Remove from oil and place it on a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil.
Cool down then store in an airtight container.
