Stuffed Mirchi/chilli Bajji


Stuffed Mirchi bajji is a popular street side snack mostly found in the streets of South India. Sipping a hot cup of tea with stuffed  mirchi bajji is really yummy. A spicy snack prepared with green chilli and with onion  potato stuffing ,  Dipped in the gram flour batter and deep fried until crispy. As monsoon is coming soon do try this recipe and make your monsoon more delicious.


For Batter

1 cup gram flour

¼ cup rice flour

½ tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp chilli powder

A pinch of asafetida

Salt to taste

Pinch of baking soda

Water as required

For stuffing

2 boiled and mashed potatoes

1 finely chopped green chilli

1tsp grated ginger

½  onion finely chopped

2tbsp chopped coriander leaves

¼ tsp turmeric powder

½ tsp chilli powder

½ tsp cumin seeds

½ tsp amchur powder

A pinch of asafetida

Salt to taste

8 large chilli

Oil for frying


In a bowl take gram flour, rice flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder,asafetida and salt. Add water and make it a smooth batter. Add a pinch of baking soda and mix gently and keep aside.

In a bowl take mashed potatoes, chopped green chili, grated ginger, chopped coriander leaves,onion . add turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin seeds, amchur powder, salt and asafetida . Mix well

Slit the green chillies at the centre and remove the seeds. Stuff the potato filling into the chilli. Dip the stuffed chilli into the batter and deep fry to golden brown.

Serve hot with tomato sauce or green chutney

*You can add two tablespoon dosa/idli batter instead of baking soda
