Vazhakai podimas is a simple stir fry recipe using Raw bananas. Podimas means mash in Tamil. It makes a perfect side dish for a south Indian lunch
Ingredients
3 Raw bananas
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp mustard seed
A pinch of Hing
Some curry leaves
Salt
For Spice powder
1 tablespoon rice
1 tablespoon toor dal
1 tablespoon chana dal
1 tablespoon Dhania
6 red chillies
Cut the banana into two halves. drop the bananas into boiling water and cook for 6 to 7 minutes. The bananas should be half cooked and firm and not mushy
Peel the cooked banana and grate the bananas using grater.
Roast the rice, toor dal, chana dal, dhania and red chillies and grind to a coarse powder
Heat a kadai and add 2 spoon of oil, then add mustard seeds and curry leaves
Now add the grated banana along with salt, turmeric powder and hing
Mix well and then add the ground spice powder
Saute for another 2 minutes in low flame so the masala coats evenly.
Remove from heat and serve with rice
